Most “AI news” is noise written for engineers. Here’s the short list that actually changes how you work this month — and what to do about each one.
1. Search Console now reports AI Overview visibility
Google added a Generative AI report that separates impressions from AI Overviews and AI Mode out of your normal search data. There’s no click data yet, but for the first time you can see whether your content is being surfaced inside AI answers at all.
Do this: open the report, note which pages already appear, and study what those pages have in common. That pattern is your template for the next ten articles.
2. AI search rewards structure, not keyword density
The pages getting pulled into AI answers tend to answer one clear question in the first two sentences, use question-shaped subheadings, and state facts plainly enough to be quoted. Long throat-clearing intros get skipped entirely.
Do this: take your best-performing old post and rewrite the opening so it answers the query directly in the first 40 words. Cheapest optimisation available.
3. Disclosure is becoming standard
Platforms are labelling AI-generated media at enormous scale. Audiences are also getting better at spotting generic AI copy — and they punish it with silence.
Do this: keep AI for research, outlines, and first drafts. Put your own experience, your own numbers, and your own opinion in the final version. That part cannot be generated.
What this adds up to for Nigerian marketers
Foreign AI models are weakest exactly where you’re strongest: local context, naira pricing, Nigerian consumer behaviour, what actually works in Lagos versus Abuja. Generic AI content is now infinite and worthless. Specific local expertise just became more valuable, not less.
Write the things a model in California cannot know.
