The Week in Marketing — Tribe Recap #2

Second edition. Here's what mattered in marketing this past week — and what it means for us in Nigeria. Five minutes, no fluff.

1️⃣ Google finally shows you AI Overview traffic. A new "Generative AI" report just landed in Search Console — it breaks out impressions from AI Overviews and AI Mode, separate from normal search. No click data yet, but for the first time you can see if you're actually being cited. If you handle SEO for any Nigerian brand, go check this report this week.

2️⃣ No big Google core update in July — but don't relax. An unconfirmed ranking shake-up hit forums around July 11-12, and Google's usual cadence points to the next real core update landing August or September. Use this quiet month to clean up thin content before it drops.

3️⃣ Meta started billing "location fees" on ads served into the UK and EU from July 1st. A 2-5% surcharge on top of your budget, billed separately. If you run ads for a Nigerian brand chasing diaspora or international customers in those markets, your reporting just got messier — check your billing this week.

4️⃣ Meta is retiring the "off-Meta activity" opt-out. Translation: retargeting and lookalike pools just got bigger by default — nobody touched a setting. Good for reach. Worth knowing if a client asks why targeting suddenly widened.

That's your week. Which of these four hits your work hardest right now? Tell me below — I'll go deeper on the winner in Thursday's Talk.
