The Week in Marketing — Tribe Recap #3
Third edition. Here's what mattered in marketing this past week — and what it means for us in Nigeria. Five minutes, no fluff.
1️⃣ Google Ads is quietly moving everyone to AI Max. The deadline to migrate old Dynamic Search Ad campaigns to AI Max just got pushed from September 2026 to February 2027 — and backend bidding changes landing August 17 will make CPA and ROAS targets more predictable for budget-limited campaigns. If you run Google Ads for a Nigerian brand, you've got a bit more runway, but don't sleep on it.
2️⃣ No core update in July — but the SERP itself keeps changing shape. AI Overviews picked up a live news carousel, AI-generated images and new citation displays this month, and Search Console quietly added tools to control how your content shows up inside AI features. Check your Search Console this week if you handle SEO for anyone.
3️⃣ Meta's location fees are now live, and Q2 earnings just dropped. The 2-5% surcharge on ads served into the UK/EU has been billed since July 1st. Meta's Q2 results (reported July 29) showed average price per ad up 12% year-on-year. If you manage ad budgets for clients chasing diaspora audiences, check your billing this week.
4️⃣ TikTok is going all-in on AI agents for advertisers. The new Agentic Hub lets marketers automate ad tasks with AI agents, and Symphony Agent inside Symphony Creative Studio can generate a full video campaign from a text prompt. Worth a test run if you're managing TikTok ads for a Nigerian brand.
That's your week. Which of these four hits your work hardest right now? Tell me below — I'll go deeper on the winner in Thursday's Talk.
